One sunny fall morning the management staff of Magoebaskloof spotted an injured male Samango monkey being terrorised by other monkeys. It almost looked like the monkey was dizzy and walking in circles. Upon closer inspection, to our horror, it seemed like it was struck by a sharp object or even a vehicle.
We immediately contacted the SPCA in Tzaneen and they put us in contact with the Monkey Sanctuary. After a few phone calls the Monkey Sanctuary came to collect the severely injured monkey and took him back to the Sanctuary where they performed emergency surgery to stitch up the 30cm cut. The Sanctuary operates on donations, so we gave the Sanctuary volunteer a complimentary lunch.
The Sanctuary called us the next day to inform us that the Monkey is doing much better and will fully recover and be released back into the wild.
